Billy Joel cancels concert tour dates and reveals brain condition diagnosis

Billy Joel, the iconic singer, has made the difficult decision to cancel his upcoming tour due to a recent health diagnosis. The cancellation includes all of his scheduled concerts up to early July 2026. Joel, 76, revealed that he has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a condition that has been exacerbated by recent performances, causing issues with his hearing, vision, and balance.

In a statement released on Friday, Joel expressed his sincere apologies to his fans for the disappointment and thanked them for their understanding. His doctor has advised him to refrain from performing as he undergoes physical therapy to manage his condition. Joel is hopeful for his return to the stage once he is able.

Fans who had purchased tickets to the canceled performances will be automatically refunded, as stated in the announcement. The tour was set to kick off in Milwaukee in April, but that show was postponed. It was supposed to include eight performances that had been rescheduled to later dates, ending on July 3, 2026. The tour was planned to take place in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.

Several legendary musicians, including Stevie Nicks, Rod Stewart, and Sting, were expected to join Joel at various points during the tour. The cancellation of the tour has disappointed many fans, but Joel’s health and well-being are the top priority.

Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a brain condition where fluid builds up inside or around the brain, affecting certain brain functions. This condition is relatively uncommon but more likely to occur in older individuals. NPH can cause symptoms such as trouble thinking, walking, and urinary incontinence. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are crucial for a positive outcome, with surgical procedures often used to manage the condition.

Here is a list of the canceled Billy Joel tour dates:
– April 26, 2025: Milwaukee, American Family Field (originally postponed)
– July 5, 2025: Pittsburgh, Acrisure Stadium
– July 18, 2025: Bronx, New York, Yankee Stadium
– Aug. 8, 2025: East Rutherford, New Jersey, MetLife Stadium
– Aug. 21, 2025: Queens, New York, Citi Field
– And more…

As fans await Joel’s eventual return to the stage, the music industry and supporters alike send their well wishes for his health and recovery.
