Black alleged serial killer wore creepy white-face mask during prior burglary spree, cops say

An alleged serial killer with a disturbing history of violent crimes has been charged with robbing and killing two men he met on dating apps in California. Rockim Prowell, 34, was also accused of attacking a third victim earlier this year, tying him up, beating him with a baseball bat, and stealing his wallet.

Prowell, who was already on probation for burglary convictions, is believed to be connected to as many as 30 break-ins across Los Angeles. In an attempt to evade detection, he wore a white-face mask that disguised his black identity, as seen in security footage captured during his crime spree.

Despite his efforts to conceal his identity, Prowell was eventually arrested after police pulled him over in a car linked to the burglaries. The mask he used was found in the vehicle, shedding light on his elaborate disguise.

The alleged killer’s violent acts included seducing, robbing, and murdering Miguel Angel King and Robert Gutierrez in separate incidents in 2021 and 2023. King was found dead with a bullet wound in the Angeles National Forest, while Gutierrez’s body was never located, but his car was discovered in Prowell’s garage.

In a chilling attack earlier this year, Prowell tied up and tortured Jordan Andrews, inflicting serious injuries with a baseball bat. Andrews managed to escape, but Prowell pursued him in a car, causing further harm by breaking his leg.

LA District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the victims’ ordeal as unimaginable, having been lured under false pretenses only to face brutal violence. Prowell now faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, carjacking, burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon, and is being held on $2 million bail.

The case of Rockim Prowell serves as a harrowing reminder of the dangers that can lurk behind the seemingly innocent facade of dating apps, highlighting the importance of vigilance and caution when interacting with strangers online.
