Three Dead, Four Survivors Found on Panga Boat Near San Diego

A tragic discovery was made on Monday morning as a panga boat washed ashore near San Diego, revealing three dead bodies and four survivors in need of medical care. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Encinitas Fire Department were among the first responders on the scene.

According to the Coast Guard, nine individuals remain unaccounted for, sparking a search and rescue operation along the coastline.

The boat came ashore on a beach in Del Mar, approximately 20 miles north of San Diego. Multiple local agencies have joined forces to assist in locating the missing individuals.

“This incident is a mass casualty situation,” stated Encinitas Deputy Fire Chief Jorge Sanchez.

Sanchez added, “We have deployed air resources to search along the coastline, as well as lifeguards on boats and jet skis, and ground teams combing the beach to ensure no one is overlooked.”
