Bob Costas to Return to NBC to Host Sunday Night Baseball Pre-Game
Bob Costas, a legendary sportscaster with nearly four decades of experience at NBC, has found a way to continue his relationship with the network. Costas will be returning to NBC as the host of the pre-game show for the network’s new “Sunday Night Baseball,” which will be broadcast on both NBC and Peacock. His debut as host will take place on Thursday, March 26, at Dodger Stadium, where the Los Angeles Dodgers will face off against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This game marks the only primetime window for Major League Baseball on Opening Day.
Costas left NBC in 2019, two years after stepping away from NBC Sports’ Olympics coverage. Since then, he has worked for MLB Network and TNT Sports, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. Costas has a long history with NBC Sports, having served as a play-by-play voice and host for the network’s MLB coverage for a total of 15 seasons from 1982 to 1989 and from 1994 to 2000.
In a statement, Costas expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to return to NBC. “As appreciative as I am of other aspects of my career, especially HBO and the MLB Network, for 40 years, my true broadcasting home was NBC,” he said. “So many great moments, memories, and friendships. Now, I am very grateful to Rick Cordella and Sam Flood for inviting me back in an emeritus role to conclude my career where so much of it played out,” Costas added, referring to the president of NBC Sports and its top programming executive.
Fans of Costas and baseball can look forward to seeing him back in action on NBC’s “Sunday Night Baseball” pre-game show. Stay tuned for more updates and coverage of this exciting development in the world of sports broadcasting.
