Boeing jet returns to US from China — a victim of Trump’s tariff war

A Boeing aircraft originally destined for a Chinese airline had to return to the US due to the impact of tariffs imposed in the ongoing trade dispute between the US and China.

The 737 MAX, painted with Xiamen livery, landed at Seattle’s Boeing Field after making refueling stops in Guam and Hawaii on its return journey from China.

The decision for the plane to return to the US was not clear, and both Boeing and Xiamen Airlines did not provide immediate comments on the situation.

President Trump’s tariff increase on Chinese imports to 145% led to China imposing a 125% tariff on US goods, affecting industries such as aviation. The return of the 737 MAX highlights the disruption caused by the trade war on aircraft deliveries.

Confusion over changing tariffs could lead to delays in aircraft deliveries as airlines may defer accepting planes to avoid paying high duties.
