Bosnian Mystery Crime Series ‘Komar’ Acquired by Beta Film
Beta Film has acquired the global distribution rights to the Bosnian mystery crime series “Komar,” which made its debut at the Sarajevo Film Festival a year ago.
Produced by BH Telecom (BH Content Lab) with SCCA/Pro.ba as the executive producer, “Komar” marks the third collaboration between BH Telecom and Beta Film, following the success of “I Know Your Soul” and “The Hollow.”
This eight-hour series adds to Beta’s impressive lineup of high-quality Balkan shows, including the award-winning “Operation Sabre” from Serbia, which was recently lauded as a “masterful political thriller” by Spiegel and “a powerful and committed thriller” by Télérama after airing on ARTE.
Other noteworthy series from the region include the Venice Film Festival TV entry “I Know Your Soul” by Jasmila Žbanić, the Bulgarian drama “Shattered Bonds,” and the popular Greek TV series “The Beach.”
“Komar” follows the story of Mersiha, whose boyfriend mysteriously disappears while traveling through the Komar mountains. Alongside her best friend Jasna, Mersiha embarks on a quest to find him. Meanwhile, passengers on the same bus wake up to find themselves stranded in the wilderness with no means of communication. As Mersiha and Jasna delve deeper into the mystery, they uncover dark forces at play.
The show is helmed by showrunner Timur Makarevic, with directing credits shared by Vedran Rupic and Una Gunjak. The lead roles are portrayed by Lejla Hakalovic, Pia Vrdoljak, and Igor Skvarica.
At this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival, Beta Film is represented by Julia Schweiger, a senior executive at Beta’s Kids & YA division. Schweiger will participate in the Cinelink panel “From SKAM to SRAM: Youth Drama, Public Broadcasters, and the Power of Adaptation.”
With its captivating storyline and talented cast and crew, “Komar” promises to be a thrilling addition to Beta Film’s diverse portfolio of international content.
