Boy, 14, shot in daylight burst of violence on NYC street, then heads to park about a mile away

A shocking incident occurred in Queens on Friday when a 14-year-old boy was shot in broad daylight on a street in Jamaica Estates. The teenager was hit in the thigh at around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Homelawn Street. Despite being wounded, the boy managed to make his way to Rufus King Park, approximately a mile away at Jamaica Avenue and 150th Street, where someone called 911 for help.

It is still unclear how the injured boy was able to reach the park after being shot. Emergency Medical Services quickly responded to the scene and transported the teenager to Northwell Cohen Children’s Medical Center. He was reported to be in stable condition, but uncooperative with investigators and authorities.

Police are currently on the lookout for two male suspects believed to be connected to the shooting. The incident adds to a recent surge in gun violence in New York City, with a recent gun battle at a basketball tournament in a Bronx park resulting in serious injuries and fatalities.

This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence in urban areas and the need for increased measures to ensure the safety and well-being of young individuals in the community. It is crucial for law enforcement to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators responsible for such senseless acts of violence and bring them to justice.
