Brazen pair robs NYPD cadet, girlfriend at gunpoint in NYC stick-up: cops, sources
The quiet neighborhood of Chelsea was rocked by a brazen robbery in the early hours of Monday morning. An off-duty NYPD cadet and his girlfriend were victims of a terrifying stick-up by two armed men on West 25th Street near Seventh Avenue.
The young cadet, only 20 years old and enrolled in the NYPD’s internship program for college students, was sitting in his car with his girlfriend when the assailants approached them with guns in hand. The suspects demanded their belongings, threatening them with violence if they didn’t comply. The cadet’s girlfriend handed over his wallet, which contained cash, credit cards, and his NYPD-issued ID.
However, the robbers weren’t satisfied with just the wallet. One of them struck the cadet in the face with his firearm and demanded more money. In fear for their lives, the cadet handed over more cash from the center console of the car.
The suspects then fled the scene in a black BMW with a New York license plate. Surveillance cameras captured the car heading towards Queens through the Queens Midtown Tunnel. One of the suspects was dressed in all black, while the other wore a white camouflage hoodie with black jeans.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that law enforcement officers face both on and off duty. The NYPD is actively investigating the robbery and seeking information from the public to apprehend the perpetrators. Residents of Chelsea are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
The cadet and his girlfriend were left shaken but thankfully unharmed physically. The psychological impact of such a traumatic experience, however, is likely to linger. The NYPD is providing support to the cadet and his girlfriend as they cope with the aftermath of the robbery.
As the investigation unfolds, the community is hopeful that the perpetrators will be swiftly brought to justice. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to take precautions to ensure their safety and security in light of this disturbing incident.
