Brendan Carr Confirms FCC Probe of ‘The View’ for Equal Time Issues

FCC Launches Enforcement Proceedings Against ABC’s “The View” Over Equal Time Rule Violations

FCC chairman Brendan Carr announced on Wednesday that the commission has initiated enforcement proceedings regarding alleged violations of the equal time rule involving political candidates on ABC’s daytime show “The View.” This comes after a recent controversy surrounding the show’s interview with James Talarico, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Texas.

Carr appeared on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” where he criticized Stephen Colbert and CBS’ “The Late Show” for their handling of the Talarico interview. He expressed concerns about the equal time rules not being followed by certain broadcast networks, especially those considered exempt due to their news-like nature.

According to Carr, networks must establish themselves as bona fide news outlets to be exempt from the equal time rule. He emphasized that the FCC is taking a closer look at shows like “The View” to ensure compliance with these regulations.

While a representative for “The View” was not available for comment, Carr praised President Donald Trump for his stance on holding the media accountable. He commended Trump for challenging traditional media narratives and giving a voice to alternative viewpoints.

The controversy surrounding Colbert’s interview with Talarico also drew scrutiny from Carr, who accused CBS of manipulating the situation for political gain. He criticized Democrats and the media for sensationalizing the incident and giving undue attention to Talarico’s campaign.

Carr’s remarks reflect a growing focus on enforcing equal time rules in the media landscape, particularly during election seasons. The FCC’s actions against “The View” and other shows signal a renewed commitment to upholding fairness and transparency in political coverage.
