Brewers trade RHP Aaron Civale to the White Sox for 1B Andrew Vaughn

The Milwaukee Brewers have made a significant move by trading right-hander Aaron Civale and cash to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for first baseman Andrew Vaughn. This trade comes after the Brewers announced they were removing Civale from their rotation, and the pitcher expressed his desire to remain a starter, even if it meant leaving Milwaukee. Civale’s wish was granted as he was traded to the White Sox just a day later.

Civale, who is 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA this season, was taken out of the Brewers’ rotation due to a surplus of starters after the promotion of prospect Jacob Misiorowski. Misiorowski made an impressive debut by throwing five innings of no-hit ball to help Milwaukee secure a 6-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Brewers’ rotation now includes Freddy Peralta, José Quintana, Quinn Priester, and Chad Patrick.

Although Civale has pitched in relief in postseason games, all of his regular-season appearances have been in a starting role. With a career record of 40-37 and a 4.06 ERA in 122 starts, Civale is making $8 million this year and is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. The Brewers acquired Civale in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays last July.

On the other side of the trade, Andrew Vaughn, 27, had a batting average of .189 with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 48 games with the White Sox before being optioned to Triple-A Charlotte in May. Vaughn, who was selected third overall by the White Sox in the 2019 draft, has a career average of .248 with 77 homers and 293 RBIs in 610 games.

This trade adds depth to both teams and provides Civale with the opportunity to return to a starting role, fulfilling his desire to showcase his skills on the mound. The Brewers and White Sox will be closely monitoring the impact of this trade as they continue their pursuit of success in the MLB.
