Brit Detective Drama ‘Bergerac’ Bought for U.S. by PBS Distribution

British detective drama “Bergerac” is making its way to the U.S. thanks to a deal between PBS Distribution and Banijay Rights. The announcement comes just before the London TV Screenings, with PBS securing the rights to the first two seasons of the show for a planned launch later this year.

Set in the picturesque island of Jersey, “Bergerac” stars Damien Molony as detective Jim Bergerac and is a modern re-imagining of the original series created by Robert Banks Stewart. The new version features a character-led murder mystery that unfolds over six episodes, a departure from the standalone storylines of the original series. Produced by BlackLight TV, Westward Studios, and supported by Visit Jersey, the show has garnered attention for its stylish and enthralling take on the classic detective genre.

The reboot of “Bergerac” has been a hit in the UK, with the first season drawing in 2.4 million viewers across U and U&DRAMA, becoming the highest-rated show on UKTV in 2025. A second season is set to premiere early this year, building on the success of the first.

The writing team behind “Bergerac” includes Toby Whithouse, Brian Fillis, Catherine Tregenna, Polly Buckle, and Emilie Robson, with Ashley Sanders and Faebian Averies joining for the second season. The stellar cast features Zoë Wanamaker, Philip Glenister, Chloé Sweet Love, Robert Gilbert, Lesley Sharp, and Adrian Edmondson, adding depth and intrigue to the series.

“We are thrilled to bring ‘Bergerac’ to U.S. audiences,” said Germaine Sweet, head of content acquisition and sales at PBS Distribution. The show’s gripping stories, talented cast, and stunning locations are sure to captivate viewers in the U.S.

Executive producers Ben Bickerton and Philip Trethowan of BlackLight TV expressed their excitement about introducing “Bergerac” to a new audience, confident that the show’s compelling narrative and production values will resonate with viewers.

In addition to the U.S. deal, “Bergerac” has also secured international sales to broadcasters in Japan, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Poland, New Zealand, and Australia. The global appeal of the series highlights its universal themes and engaging storytelling that transcends borders.

The acquisition of “Bergerac” by PBS marks a significant milestone for the show’s international reach, solidifying its position as a must-watch detective drama with a fresh and contemporary twist. As the series continues to gain momentum, audiences around the world can look forward to experiencing the intrigue and excitement of “Bergerac” in the coming months.
