Brute busted in string of hate crimes nabbed again for breaking Muslim woman’s nose in NYC subway

A recent incident on a Queens train has brought to light the alarming issue of hate crimes against Muslim individuals. Naved Durrni, a 34-year-old man with a history of anti-Muslim attacks, was arrested once again for assaulting a 55-year-old hijab-wearing woman on an E train.

The attack took place at the 75th Avenue station in Queens, where Durrni approached the woman and asked about her religion. Upon learning that she was Muslim, he proceeded to physically assault her, causing fractures to her nasal and orbital bones. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, while Durrni fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by authorities.

Durrni, who has a criminal record that includes multiple arrests for targeting Muslim individuals, was charged with hate crime assault and aggravated harassment. This is not the first time he has been involved in such incidents, as he was previously arrested for a series of anti-Muslim attacks in 2021.

In one instance, Durrni assaulted a couple walking in Queens, punching the man and tugging on the woman’s hijab while making derogatory remarks about Islam. In another attack, he physically assaulted a woman and made inflammatory statements about Prophet Mohammed and Jesus.

Despite his history of hate crimes, Durrni was released following his previous arrest and was only convicted of second-degree aggravated harassment in 2022. He is now facing charges for his latest attack and is being held without bail pending further legal proceedings.

The disturbing trend of hate crimes targeting Muslim individuals underscores the importance of addressing and combating Islamophobia in our communities. It is crucial to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions and ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals, regardless of their religious beliefs.
