Chicago police have a suspect in custody and have recovered a firearm after a bystander was shot during a possible shootout between two gunmen outside Wrigley Field on Thursday evening. Cubs security cameras, known for their top-notch quality, captured the incident according to a source.
Details of the Incident
Eyewitnesses reported that two groups of individuals in their teens or early 20s were involved in a confrontation at the corner of Waveland and Sheffield around 6:56 p.m. The altercation escalated into a situation where two males began shooting at each other.
One of the bullets fired by a gunman on the north side of Waveland struck a 26-year-old man in the left arm as he was standing across the street outside Murphy’s Bleachers. Police found at least 15 shell casings near a parking lot on the north side of Waveland Avenue.
Law enforcement officers quickly responded by flooding the nearby CTA stations and managed to apprehend a suspect at the Wilson Red Line station around 7:18 p.m. A firearm and a backpack containing a sweatshirt matching the description provided by witnesses were found in the possession of the suspect. Five other individuals accompanying the suspect were taken in for questioning.
Current Condition of the Victim
The victim, who was shot in the arm, was promptly transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and is reported to be in good to fair condition.
