CA teacher of the year candidate arrested for offering money for sex acts from 13-year-old boy
A shocking incident in California has left a community reeling after a Teacher of the Year finalist was arrested for attempting to pay for sexual acts with an undercover cop posing as a 13-year-old boy. Ruben Guzman, a respected assistant principal and math teacher at Sunrise Middle School in San Jose, was caught in a sting operation last week when he arranged to meet the supposed minor.
The 31-year-old educator, who had also been honored by the San Francisco 49ers for his dedication to teaching, was taken into custody by San Jose police and the FBI as part of a larger crackdown on individuals involved in child exploitation crimes online. The joint operation led to the arrest of 10 other suspects across the region.
The news of Guzman’s arrest came as a shock to the school district, with principal Teresa Robinson expressing disbelief at the allegations. She stated that there were no red flags at work indicating his alleged criminal activities. Robinson told ABC7, “While this is deeply upsetting, it does not reflect who we are as a school. He was a highly regarded teacher and administrator.”
Amid concerns that there may be potential victims within the school community, Robinson assured parents that safety remains a top priority. She emphasized that, to their knowledge, no students at the school had been harmed. Guzman had been recognized for his outstanding work at the middle school over the past six years, earning accolades such as Teacher of the Year finalist and commendation from the San Francisco 49ers.
San Jose Police Department spokeswoman Stacie Shih explained that the undercover operations were conducted by officers to apprehend offenders before any harm could be done to children. She stressed the importance of these operations in preventing harm to minors and ensuring the safety of the community.
The incident has left many in shock and disbelief, as a well-respected educator faces serious charges. The community now grapples with the aftermath of these disturbing revelations, as they strive to ensure the safety and well-being of their students.
