California gubernatorial hopeful Katie Porter tries to storm out of CBS interview after meltdown over Trump question

Former California Representative Katie Porter made headlines recently when she attempted to storm out of an interview after being asked a question about President Trump. The Democrat, who is currently running for governor, became visibly agitated during the sit-down with CBS reporter Julie Watts.

The leaked footage of the encounter showed Porter becoming defensive when Watts asked how she planned to win over Republican voters in her bid to replace Governor Gavin Newsom. Porter initially tried to deflect the question, insisting that she could build support and seek every vote possible. However, she quickly grew frustrated with Watts’s line of questioning.

At one point, Porter snapped at Watts, accusing her of being unnecessarily argumentative. When Watts pressed on with the question, Porter attempted to remove her microphone and end the interview. She expressed her desire to have a positive conversation and expressed her frustration with the follow-up questions.

Porter’s campaign later clarified that the interview continued for an additional 20 minutes after the tense exchange. It remains unclear when or if the full interview will be aired.

Porter, who launched her gubernatorial campaign in March, has faced criticism in the past for allegedly bullying staffers. Her ex-husband, Matthew Hoffman, also made allegations of verbal abuse during their marriage, claiming that Porter would throw objects at him and even poured scalding-hot mashed potatoes on his head during an argument.

Despite these controversies, Porter remains a prominent figure in California politics and is vying for the governorship once Newsom’s term ends. Her interactions with the media, like the recent interview with CBS, highlight the challenges she may face in appealing to a broad range of voters, including those who may have supported Trump in the past.
