California school aide Lisette Ortega Veles pleads guilty to having sex with student
A shocking case has emerged from a San Diego-area high school, where a California school aide has pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activities with a 17-year-old student. Lisette Ortega Veles, 32, who was contracted to work as a third-party employee at Mar Vista High School, admitted to unlawfully engaging in sexual intercourse and oral copulation with the underage boy.
The incident came to light when police received reports of a student support aide having a sexual relationship with a minor at the Imperial Beach campus on May 19. An investigation revealed that Ortega’s inappropriate relationship with the student had been ongoing for a year, involving off-campus incidents. Detectives also found evidence suggesting that Ortega had tried to prevent the student from disclosing the sexual assault.
Ortega, who was employed as a student support aide by the third-party contractor Ro Health, was arrested on May 21 and charged with various sex crimes related to her relationship with the minor. The charges included oral copulation with a victim under 18, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, arranging a meeting with a minor for a lewd act, communicating with a minor with lewd intent, and attempting to dissuade a victim.
She is set to be sentenced on October 29 at the South County Courthouse in Chula Vista, facing a possible sentence of up to five years in state prison. The plea deal did not include a predetermined sentencing, leaving the judge to decide Ortega’s fate during the sentencing hearing.
Ro Health, the third-party contractor that employed Ortega, emphasized their commitment to safety and thorough background checks for all employees. The company stated that they take the allegations seriously and are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter. They assured that student safety is their top priority and that they have strict employee screening processes in place.
The case has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the safety and security of students in educational environments. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and accountability in ensuring the well-being of students and maintaining a safe learning environment.
