California technical college workers shot on campus in alleged workplace violence incident

Two Female Employees Shot at Southern California Technical College

On Friday, two female employees of a Southern California technical college were shot on campus in an incident of workplace violence. The shooting took place at around 4 p.m. in an office at the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology campus in Inglewood. Mayor James Butts stated that the suspect was believed to be a former employee of the college.

Aerial TV footage showed a heavy police presence outside the campus in Inglewood, which is located southwest of Los Angeles.

According to Butts, one of the victims was in critical condition. The Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed that both victims were taken to the hospital.

After the shooting, a person was taken into custody. The Los Angeles Police Department detained a male subject from a car that matched the description of a vehicle linked to the shooting, which had been sent out to local law enforcement agencies by the Inglewood Police Department.

The Inglewood police did not immediately provide further information on the incident.

Following the shooting, the school went on lockdown for at least an hour to ensure the safety of students and staff on campus.

Chris Becker, the president and chief administrator of the campus, mentioned that the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology campus is regularly patrolled and prioritizes safety, especially being an aviation school.

Becker stated, “It’s a peaceful campus. It’s a nice community of students and teachers and staff.”

The Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology has multiple campuses across the country. The Inglewood location, situated near the Los Angeles International Airport, caters to around 500 students and offers training programs focused on aviation maintenance technology.
