Cam Thomas’ resilience through facial injury impresses Nets coach Jordi Fernández
The Houston Rockets faced off against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night, with Cam Thomas making headlines despite a tough loss for the Nets. Known for his scoring prowess, Thomas received praise from coach Jordi Fernández for his resilience in the face of multiple injuries. Despite suffering a nasal fracture, stitches over his left eye, and a hand injury, Thomas continued to push through and show his dedication to the game.
Thomas, who is playing on a qualifying offer, will become an unrestricted free agent next summer. The Nets also made roster moves, assigning Drake Powell and Danny Wolf to their G-League affiliate Long Island. Both rookies, who had been sidelined with ankle injuries, returned to New York to participate in practice with Long Island.
The Nets will be facing the Hawks on Wednesday before their next game on Sunday. Ziaire Williams missed Monday’s game due to a lower back/glute contusion, while Egor Dëmin was rested as part of injury management for his left plantar fascia tear. Fernández clarified that Dëmin’s rest was a strategic decision to ensure he can handle the physical demands of the game.
With Dëmin out, rookie guard Nolan Traore stepped up and contributed three points, three assists, and two rebounds off the bench. Traore emphasized the need for consistency in his performance, and Fernández expressed excitement for the young guard’s opportunity to showcase his skills.
Despite the challenges faced by the Nets due to injuries, Fernández remains optimistic about the team’s depth and the opportunities it presents for young players like Traore. As the season progresses, the Nets will continue to rely on their roster depth to navigate through injuries and maintain a competitive edge in the league.
