Cape Fear Sets First Look at Javier Bardem’s Max Cady and Release Date

Apple TV’s highly anticipated “Cape Fear” series, starring Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson, is set to premiere on June 5 with two episodes. The announcement was made at Apple TV’s 2026 Press Day on Feb. 3, where images of the cast were revealed along with a teaser that was exclusively shown to attendees in the room. Creator and showrunner Nick Antosca led a panel discussion with Wilson and Adams, shedding light on what viewers can expect from this thrilling new series.

Based on John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel “The Executioners” and Martin Scorsese’s 1991 film “Cape Fear,” the 10-episode drama series explores the story of happily married attorneys, Anna (played by Adams) and Tom Bowden (played by Wilson). Their lives take a dark turn when Max Cady (portrayed by Bardem), a notorious killer they helped put behind bars, is released from prison and seeks revenge. The ensemble cast also includes CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, Anna Baryshnikov, Ron Perlman, Ted Levine, and Margarita Levieva.

During the panel discussion, Antosca highlighted the “elemental terror” present in the story, emphasizing the theme of parents trying to protect their children at all costs. Adams praised Bardem’s portrayal of Max Cady, noting his natural charisma and the vulnerability he brings to the character. She teased the complexity of Bardem’s performance, promising viewers a compelling and devastating portrayal of the villain.

The series, which delves into America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century, aims to capture the atmospheric dread of living in 2026. Executive producers include industry heavyweights like Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, along with Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Bardem, Adams, and Morten Tyldum, who also directed the pilot episode. The project was developed and produced through Universal Studio Group’s Universal Content Productions, under Antosca’s overall deal since 2017.

Apple TV also unveiled exclusive first look images of Bardem, Adams, and Wilson in character, giving fans a glimpse of the intense and gripping performances to come in “Cape Fear.” With a stellar cast, talented creative team, and a chilling premise, the series is poised to captivate audiences when it premieres in June.
