Jamie Bennett, Television Executive Behind Popular Shows, Passes Away at 78
Jamie Bennett, a well-respected television executive known for his work at CBS and Walt Disney, passed away on July 6 after battling cancer. He was 78 years old.
Bennett’s career in the entertainment industry spanned over several decades, starting at CBS where he held executive positions at radio and TV stations in major cities like San Francisco, Chicago, and Los Angeles. His role as VP and general manager of KCBS-TV showcased his talent for developing successful programming.
Transitioning to the Walt Disney Company, Bennett became the senior VP of Buena Vista Television Productions. During his time there, he played a key role in developing hit syndicated shows such as “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee,” “Siskel and Ebert,” and “Win, Lose or Draw.” His expertise in the industry led him to become the president and CEO of ACI, a prominent television and film distribution company based in Los Angeles.
Born in New York City, Bennett’s passion for entertainment brought him to California, where he attended the University of California, Berkeley. His leadership skills and contributions to student welfare were recognized when he received the Kenneth Priestly Award upon graduating. Bennett furthered his education by earning an MBA from Harvard Business School before taking on roles at the Southern California Institute of Architecture and various boards and foundations.
Throughout his career, Bennett remained active in the community, serving on the Board of the Ojai Music Festival and contributing to various organizations focused on environmental conservation and the arts. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Doepke Bennett, their children, and extended family members.
