CBS’ Matthew Gray Gubler Drama ‘Einstein’ Pushed to Fall 2026

CBS has made an interesting decision regarding the premiere of its upcoming drama “Einstein.” Originally slated for the 2025-2026 TV season, the show will now be held back until the following year, during the 2026-2027 season. This delay is due to scheduling constraints, as CBS executives felt there wasn’t enough room for “Einstein” in the upcoming lineup.
The network is currently finalizing its schedule for the next season and will announce its fall 2025 plans at a press conference on May 7. While “Einstein” has been pushed back, other new shows like “Boston Blue,” “Sheriff Country,” and “FBI:CIA” have already been ordered for the upcoming season. Returning scripted series include fan favorites like “NCIS,” “FBI,” and “Ghosts,” among others. Unfortunately, shows like “Blue Bloods” and “SWAT” will not be returning.
The decision to delay the premiere of “Einstein” is part of a trend in network programming that allows for a longer lead time before launching new series. This approach gives shows more time for pre-production and development, ensuring a higher quality end product. Additionally, with the recent Hollywood strikes, networks like CBS are being cautious and keeping some content in reserve in case of future production stoppages.
“Einstein” is based on a German format and follows the story of Lewis Einstein, the great-grandson of Albert Einstein, who uses his brilliant mind to assist a local detective in solving crimes. Matthew Gray Gubler stars as Lewis Einstein, alongside Rosa Salazar as Detective Veronica “Ronni” Paris. The show is executive produced by a team including Andy Breckman and Tariq Jalil.
The original German version of “Einstein” was a success, running for three seasons and being distributed to over 100 territories. Various attempts have been made to adapt the show for American audiences, with different versions in development over the years. The CBS adaptation has been in the works since 2019, and fans are eagerly anticipating its premiere in 2026.
