CBS News Contributor Peter Attia Under Fire After Epstein Disclosures

Dr. Peter Attia, recently named as a CBS News contributor, is facing backlash following the release of documents from the Jeffrey Epstein files that reveal a close relationship between the two. The documents contain over 1,700 mentions of Attia and evidence of a friendly rapport with Epstein, the convicted sex offender who passed away in prison in 2019.

One email from Attia to Epstein’s assistant, Lesley Groff, dated January 2016, states, “I go into JE withdrawal when I don’t see him.” This revelation has sparked criticism on social media platforms.

CBS News has not issued a statement regarding Attia’s status as a contributor. Attia is renowned for his work in the study of human longevity and anti-aging techniques.

Attia was among the 19 new contributors announced by CBS News on January 27. The network, under the leadership of editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, is undergoing a revamp. Attia is the founder of Outlive, an app that translates longevity science into personalized daily practices, and Early Medical, a practice that applies cutting-edge medical principles to enhance patients’ lifespan and healthspan. He also hosts the podcast “The Peter Attia Drive” and authored the bestseller “Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity.”

In a “60 Minutes” segment last October, Attia discussed his strategies for maintaining quality of life in older age, emphasizing the importance of exercise, protein intake, and early diagnostics.

Some of the other contributors named by Weiss specialize in health and wellness research but may advocate for unconventional ideas. Mark Hyman, a physician involved in food and agriculture policy reform, supports controversial policies proposed by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy. He promotes the “pegan diet,” which limits nutrient-dense foods like beans and whole grains. Andrew Huberman, a popular science podcaster, has faced criticism for endorsing dietary supplements.

The relationship between Attia and Epstein has raised questions about his credibility as a CBS News contributor. It remains to be seen how the network will address this issue and whether Attia’s role will be affected by the controversy.
