CBS News Ombudsman Role Goes To Former Trump Nominee

Paramount has appointed former Trump nominee Kenneth Weinstein as the ombudsman for CBS News in an effort to address bias and signal a more conservative direction for the network.

Weinstein’s role as an ombudsman was committed by Skydance during the FCC approval of its merger with Paramount. He will be responsible for handling bias complaints regarding the network’s news coverage and engaging with Paramount and CBS executives to resolve them.

Despite his ties to President Trump, Weinstein’s appointment has raised concerns about his qualifications and suitability due to his past leadership of a right-leaning think tank and limited news experience.

Weinstein has a background in conservative think tanks, including the Hudson Institute, and has been critical of the Biden administration. He has also donated to pro-Trump and Republican political groups.

Weinstein’s previous experience includes chairing the Broadcasting Board of Governors and serving on federal advisory panels under different administrations.

In his new role, Weinstein will act as an advocate for journalistic integrity and transparency, addressing concerns raised by employees and viewers and upholding the organization’s commitment to accuracy and accountability.

CBS News has been under scrutiny for other conservative-leaning moves, including settling a lawsuit with Trump over the editing of a “60 Minutes” interview and elevating Bari Weiss to a top role after acquiring her publication, The Free Press.

Weinstein expressed his honor in serving as the Ombudsman for CBS News, emphasizing his dedication to supporting the team and maintaining public trust in the institution.
