CFB fans react to Florida WR Aidan Mizell entering transfer portal
Florida wide receiver Aidan Mizell has decided to enter the transfer portal after three seasons with the Gators. The redshirt sophomore confirmed his decision on Tuesday, making him the latest player to leave the program as Jon Sumrall takes over as head coach.
Mizell arrived at Florida in 2023 and redshirted his first year. He quickly became a key part of the Gators’ wide receiver rotation in his second season, playing in 12 games. However, injuries limited his playing time to just eight games in 2025, despite high expectations for an increased role.
During his time at Florida, Mizell accumulated 38 receptions for 404 yards and three touchdowns in 22 games, averaging 10.6 yards per catch. He took to social media to bid farewell to the program, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to play for his dream school.
“It’s been an absolute honor to play for my dream school over the past three years,” Mizell wrote in a post on his social media account. “Wearing the orange and blue and representing the University of Florida is something I’ll always be proud of, and I wouldn’t change a single moment of this journey for anything.”
Mizell’s decision to enter the transfer portal sparked reactions from college football fans, many of whom were surprised by his departure. He joins a growing list of Florida players who have entered the portal, including DJ Lagway, Jordan Casteel, KD Daniels, and Amir Jackson.
Coach Jon Sumrall has made it clear that the Gators will be active in the transfer portal as they look to bolster their roster. Sumrall emphasized the importance of using the portal to address any holes or deficiencies in the team and enhance their overall competitiveness.
Despite the departures, Florida has had a successful recruiting class in 2026, ranking 13th according to Rivals Industry rankings. Sumrall will continue to recruit players to improve the team’s standing before National Signing Day.
Overall, Aidan Mizell’s decision to enter the transfer portal marks a significant change for the Florida Gators as they navigate a new era under Coach Sumrall. Fans will be eager to see how the team evolves and rebuilds in the coming seasons.
