Cherry Hills mansion lists for first time in nearly 70 years at $12M
Cherry Hills Country Club Estate with Rich History Hits the Market for $12 Million
When the Taplin family acquired 11 Cherry Hills Drive back in 1958, the property was situated at the end of a dusty road. The house, constructed in 1941, offers stunning views of the 10th fairway of the Cherry Hills Country Club. However, Thomas and Beatrice Taplin’s decision to purchase the property was driven by the need for a spacious home to accommodate their four sons.
The 6,000-square-foot New England-style manor boasts five bedrooms and six bathrooms, providing ample room for the family’s needs. In 1989, the Taplins expanded the property by acquiring additional land. Subsequently, in the 1990s, they undertook a renovation project to modernize the house’s infrastructure and install an elevator while preserving its original charm, such as the unique angled ceilings in the upstairs bedrooms.
Aside from the main residence, the Cherry Hills Village estate features an outdoor swimming pool, a pool house, expansive gardens, century-old trees, and a delightful assortment of birdhouses. Thomas Taplin, an esteemed industrialist and philanthropist, passed away in 2007, followed by Beatrice Taplin, a dedicated philanthropist known for her work with organizations like Planned Parenthood, the Denver Symphony Orchestra, and the Denver Botanic Gardens, who passed away in September.
Tragically, their eldest son, Tom, lost his life in 2015 while filming a documentary at Mount Everest’s base camp during an avalanche triggered by an earthquake. Now, the Taplin family’s estate is offering the 3.7-acre property, featuring 841 linear feet of golf course frontage, for sale at $12 million.
Real estate agents Pam Helm, Patti Helm, and Libby Weaver of Helm Weaver Helm are handling the listing. Prospective buyers have the option to either retain the property as a whole or divide it into two parcels for renovation or reconstruction.
“This property has the potential to become a generational asset,” remarked Pam Helm. “It’s truly a one-of-a-kind find that you won’t encounter elsewhere.”
