Chicago felon Michael Korosa freed from jail after manslaughter charge in Elijah Flores train station death

A tragic incident unfolded at a Chicago train station on August 10, 2025, resulting in the death of a 9-year-old boy named Elijah Flores. The incident involved a botched robbery attempt that led to the untimely demise of the young child. Michael Korosa, a 52-year-old man with a felony record, has been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter in connection with the incident.

Elijah Flores was under the care of Jonah Soria, 22, who was dating Flores’ mother at the time. The situation escalated when Soria pushed Flores onto the train platform during an attempted robbery, grabbing money from a man before fleeing the scene. Flores followed along with Korosa, who was with Soria during the incident. Soria carried Flores on his shoulders as they tried to escape, but Korosa caught up to them at the top of a flight of stairs.

In a tragic turn of events, Korosa allegedly struck Soria with a cane, causing both Soria and Flores to fall down the stairs. Flores suffered a fatal head injury upon hitting the pavement, while Soria landed on top of him. Soria then carried Flores onto another train, where the child became unresponsive. Emergency services were called, and Flores was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Korosa was arrested on August 30 and faces additional charges of felony aggravated battery on a transit employee related to the incident. Despite the charges against him, Korosa was released from custody on Monday pending trial. He has a prior felony conviction for assaulting a Walgreens security guard in 2020.

Soria, on the other hand, has not been charged in connection with Flores’ death but was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court in a separate case. The details surrounding the incident continue to unfold, and it remains unclear if Korosa has legal representation at this time.

In a separate development, President Donald Trump expressed concern over the rising crime rates in Chicago, vowing to intervene to address the issue. He highlighted the recent surge in shootings and fatalities in the city, emphasizing the need for swift action to restore safety and security.

The tragic events at the Chicago train station serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of criminal behavior and the importance of upholding justice in society. As the legal proceedings progress, the community mourns the loss of Elijah Flores and seeks closure in the pursuit of justice for the young victim.
