Chicken fried rice sold at Trader Joe’s and other retailers recalled because it could contain glass

A popular frozen food manufacturer is issuing a recall for approximately 3.4 million pounds of chicken fried rice products that were distributed to Trader Joe’s stores across the United States and to retailers in Canada. The reason for the recall is due to a potential contamination of glass in the products.

The Department of Agriculture announced the recall, which pertains to frozen “not ready-to-eat” chicken fried rice manufactured by Ajinomoto Foods North America, based in Portland, Oregon. The affected products were produced between September 8, 2025, and November 17, 2025. These items, sold at Trader Joe’s, come in 20-ounce packages and contain a blend of stir-fried rice, vegetables, chicken, and eggs.

Additionally, Ajinomoto is recalling cardboard packages that were exported to Canada. These packages contain six bags of frozen chicken fried rice labeled as “Ajinomoto yakitori chicken with Japanese-style fried rice” and have best-by dates ranging from September 9 to November 12.

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a notice stating that the products may contain foreign material, specifically glass. The recall was initiated by Ajinomoto after receiving reports from four customers who found glass in the product.

Fortunately, no injuries related to the consumption of the frozen chicken fried rice have been reported, according to the FSIS. Consumers who have purchased these products are advised not to consume them and to discard them immediately.

In light of this recall, it is crucial for consumers to stay informed about food safety alerts and to follow the guidelines provided by regulatory agencies to ensure their well-being. It is always recommended to check product packaging for any signs of contamination before consumption.
