Chilling video shows prisoners smiling before beating sex offender to death

Newly released video footage has revealed a chilling incident at His Majesty’s Prison Fosse Way in Leicestershire, where two inmates, Ashirie Smith and Thierry Robinson, were captured breaking into smiles before brutally beating Mahir Abdulrahman to death in his cell. The shocking incident, which took place last August, resulted in Abdulrahman being pronounced dead within the hour due to bleeding to the brain.

Abdulrahman, who was serving a 35-week sentence for sex offenses, had requested to be moved to a new cell shortly before the attack. Witnesses testified that he had been terrorized by the accused inmates for days leading up to the fatal beating. The video footage shows Smith and Robinson sneaking down a hallway towards Abdulrahman’s cell, before emerging 37 seconds later, leaving him unconscious and fatally injured.

Smith, who was already serving time for a weapons charge, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 17 ½ years to be served. Robinson, on the other hand, was found guilty of manslaughter and received an 11-year prison sentence. A third defendant, Shaan Karim, was acquitted of murder and manslaughter charges.

Wyn Jones, the prison director, expressed his condolences to Abdulrahman’s family and all those affected by the tragic incident, stating that any death in prison is a tragedy, but the murder of Mr. Abdulrahman was a heinous act. The video footage and subsequent trial highlighted the brutal nature of the attack and the consequences faced by the perpetrators.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by inmates in correctional facilities, as well as the need for stringent security measures to prevent such acts of violence. The smiles captured on the faces of the attackers moments before the assault paint a disturbing picture of the callousness and brutality that can exist within the confines of a prison environment. The conviction of Smith and Robinson for their roles in Abdulrahman’s death sends a strong message about the consequences of such violent actions and the importance of upholding safety and security within correctional facilities.
