China protests Taiwan foreign minister’s visit to the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines — Philippines recently welcomed a high-level delegation of investors led by Taiwan’s foreign minister, causing tension with China and a stern warning to Manila.

The dispute between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea has escalated due to recent confrontations over territorial claims. Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung’s visit to Manila and the Clark Freeport Zone has further strained relations.

While Philippine officials have not confirmed Lin’s visit, sources reveal that he arrived with a delegation of Taiwanese investors in key industries. Despite the One China policy, the Philippines maintains economic engagements with Taiwan within specified boundaries.

China has strongly protested against Lin’s visit, accusing the Philippines of supporting Taiwan independence activities. Beijing warned Manila to refrain from actions that challenge China’s core interests.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing emphasized the consequences of crossing China’s red lines, urging the Philippines to respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
