Choi Min-sik Leads Netflix Korean Drama ‘Notes From the Last Row’

Netflix has given the green light to an exciting new Korean series that promises to deliver psychological thrills with a stellar A-list cast. Titled “Notes From the Last Row,” the series will be an adaptation of the popular Spanish play “El Chico de la última fila” for Korean audiences.

The suspenseful drama revolves around Heo Mun-oh, a grumpy literature professor and writer whose creative spark has faded over time. His world is turned upside down when he encounters Lee Kang, a mysterious student who always sits in the back row of the classroom but possesses exceptional literary talent.

Veteran actor Choi Min-sik, known for his work in “Exhuma” and “Big Bet,” will take on the role of Heo Mun-oh. The story kicks off when Mun-oh is captivated by Lee Kang’s writing assignment, which stands out as the only submission that grabs his attention, leading him to mentor the enigmatic student.

Rising star Choi Hyun-wook, recognized for his roles in “Weak Hero Class 1” and “Twenty-Five Twenty-One,” will portray Lee Kang, an engineering student with hidden literary abilities. Under Mun-oh’s guidance, Lee Kang navigates a tumultuous path shaped by his mentor’s intense fascination with his work.

The cast also includes Huh Joon-ho as Kim Su-hun, Mun-oh’s successful writer friend, and Kim Yun-jin as Ahn Eun-joo, Su-hun’s wife. Jin Kyung rounds out the ensemble as Jo Hyeon-suk, Mun-oh’s psychologist wife.

Director Kim Gyu-tae, known for his work on “The Trunk” and “Our Blues,” will bring his expertise in psychological storytelling to the series. The screenplay is penned by Jang Myung-woo, the writer of “My Mother, the Mermaid.”

The series is a collaboration between Kakao Entertainment and Gtist and is currently in production, with a table read featuring the main cast recently completed. Fans can expect a gripping and immersive viewing experience when “Notes From the Last Row” hits the screens.
