Chris Redd Says He Sold Pills to ‘SNL’ Castmates

Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Redd shared a heartfelt video on his Instagram account on Tuesday morning, opening up about his struggles with pills during his time on the show. In the roughly six-minute confession, Redd admitted to not only battling his own pill problems but also selling pills to some of his fellow “SNL” cast members.

In the emotional video, Redd expressed his desire to be more vulnerable and open in his life and work moving forward. He revealed, “While I was at the show, I had some pill issues, you know, some pill problems. Nothing too crazy, but crazy for my black ass. And I was even selling some to some of my castmates. I’m not gonna snitch on y’all motherfuckers man.”

The comedian went on to share how hurt he was by the lack of support he received from his castmates when he was struggling with drugs. Instead of offering help, Redd explained that they would simply talk negatively about him. “I would hear them because, you know, some of that Adderall shit got you super hearing and shit,” he added. “But [they] wouldn’t help me, you know. I would have panic attacks, [they] wouldn’t be concerned about me or nothing. Just would talk shit. It’s crazy how somebody would watch you destroy yourself.”

Redd joined “SNL” as a featured player in 2017 and spent five seasons on the show before departing in 2022. During his time on the iconic sketch comedy series, he made a name for himself with impressions like then-New York Mayor Eric Adams and memorable pre-taped sketches. In 2018, he even won an Emmy for co-writing the song “Come Back, Barack,” a humorous plea for former President Barack Obama to return to office.

Following his time on “SNL,” Redd has continued to make waves in the entertainment industry, appearing in popular shows like “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” and “Happy Family USA,” as well as starring in films such as “Merv” and “Candy Cane Lane.”
