Citi Banker Powers $1,300,000 Scheme To Drain Customer Accounts, Books One-Way Ticket out of the Country
A shocking case has come to light involving a former Citi Bank employee who orchestrated a sophisticated scheme to defraud customers and flee the country with millions of dollars. According to recent court documents, Ana Dalila Vega, a personal banker at Citi Bank in Florida, worked in cahoots with accomplices to carry out fraudulent wire transfers from customer accounts to fictitious shell companies.
Vega’s involvement in the elaborate scheme began in 2023 when she crossed paths with an individual in her apartment complex who lured her into participating in illicit banking activities. As part of the operation, Vega abused her position at the bank to unblock specific accounts, facilitate unauthorized money transfers, and falsely add authorized signatories to these accounts.
During voluntary interviews with investigators, Vega confessed to her role in the $1.3 million scam. She acknowledged that she was fully aware of the illegitimate nature of the transactions and the fact that the funds did not rightfully belong to the individuals involved. Despite being complicit in the fraud, Vega made a bold move in January by purchasing a one-way ticket to Nicaragua, where she intended to escape the authorities.
However, Vega’s escape plan was foiled when law enforcement officials intercepted her travel arrangements and promptly arrested her. This swift action prevented her from absconding with the ill-gotten gains and brought her to justice for her criminal activities.
