Citigroup sued by former executive who says it mishandled sexual harassment

Former Citigroup Executive Sues Bank for Sexual Harassment

A former managing director at Citigroup has filed a lawsuit against the bank, alleging that she was forced out after experiencing sexual harassment by Andy Sieg, a top executive overseeing the bank’s wealth management unit.

Julia Carreon, who held the position of global head of platform and experiences, claimed in a complaint filed in Manhattan federal court that Sieg initially supported her but then engaged in a pattern of sexual harassment, manipulation, and grooming.

Carreon further stated that Citigroup’s human resources department played a role in forcing her out, continuing a history of bias and harassment against women within the bank.

Citigroup responded to the lawsuit, stating that it has no merit and will address the allegations through legal proceedings.

Allegations and Legal Action

Carreon is seeking damages for racial and sexual discrimination under federal, state, and city laws. Reports from Bloomberg News and the Financial Times have also highlighted allegations of misconduct by Sieg towards employees.

The lawsuit comes at a time when Citigroup is facing another legal battle from managing director Ardith Lindsey over claims of a hostile work environment and gender discrimination.

Detailed Allegations

Carreon detailed instances where Sieg allegedly treated her differently from male colleagues, including frequent communication and sharing of confidential information. She also mentioned instances where Sieg made inappropriate comments and insinuations about their relationship.

According to the complaint, Carreon faced repercussions after HR conducted an investigation based on false allegations against her, leading to her departure from Citigroup.

The lawsuit sheds light on the challenges faced by women in the corporate world and the importance of addressing issues related to harassment and discrimination in the workplace.
