Citizen of the West George Eidsness lives by the West’s unwritten moral code
George Eidsness: A True Western Spirit
George Eidsness is a rare embodiment of the Western way of life, hailing from northeastern North Dakota and expanding Transwest automotive group into a conglomerate of businesses. His dedication to the values that define the West has earned him the prestigious title of the 2026 Citizen of the West from the National Western Stock Show.
The award recognizes individuals who epitomize the spirit and resilience of Western pioneers, embodying the lifestyle, ideals, agricultural heritage, and traditions of the West.
Reflecting on his journey, Eidsness expressed humility, acknowledging the esteemed company he now joins as a recipient of the award.
His roots in a wheat farm near Brocket, N.D., instilled in him the core values of hard work and responsibility. These values guided him through his education at the University of North Dakota and a successful career in the automotive industry before venturing into entrepreneurship with the acquisition of Transwest Trucks in 1990.
Over the years, Transwest has flourished under Eidsness’s leadership, expanding to 25 locations across the Western U.S. and Canada, specializing in service, sales, and parts for various industries.
Aside from his business ventures, Eidsness found solace and passion in the outdoors, acquiring Steamboat Lake Outfitters and the Flying E Ranch in 1996.
His love for the Western lifestyle extended to participating in team penning events, where he found camaraderie and competition that fueled his spirit.

Eidsness’s induction into the U.S. Team Penning Hall of Fame in 2023 cemented his legacy as a true representative of Western heritage and perseverance.
He attributes his success to the guiding principles of the Code of the West, a set of unwritten rules that emphasize courage, integrity, and accountability.
Through his leadership at Transwest and his commitment to preserving Western culture, Eidsness continues to inspire the next generation to uphold the values that define the West.
His dedication to education and mentorship underscores his belief in nurturing future leaders who will carry on the legacy of the Western way of life.
As Eidsness prepares to be celebrated as the 47th Citizen of the West at the National Western Stock Show, his journey stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the American West.
