CJ ENM, Hakuhodo Launch Chapter-I Joint Venture for Global Music
CJ ENM and Hakuhodo Inc. have joined forces to create Chapter-I, a new joint venture focused on expanding global music intellectual properties beyond Asia. The collaboration brings together CJ ENM’s expertise in music content creation and talent development with Hakuhodo’s data-driven market solutions and marketing prowess. Together, they aim to innovate the industry with new audition formats tailored to diverse markets.
The inaugural project for Chapter-I is “Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Pop Princess,” a Korea-Japan co-production survival show set to debut in October. This new iteration of the popular “Unpretty Rapstar” franchise will scout global artists skilled in rap, dance, and music production, with the creative teams behind the original series and “Street Woman Fighter” joining forces.
But Chapter-I’s ambitions extend far beyond television production. The venture plans to encompass talent development, music production, content distribution, live performances, and merchandising, positioning itself as a key player in the global music ecosystem.
This joint venture is a cornerstone of CJ ENM’s 2025 global music business roadmap, which focuses on Global Label, Global Content, and Global Platforms. The initiative aims to solidify CJ ENM’s position in the international music industry while driving the global expansion of K-pop.
As CJ ENM celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025, the company continues to shape K-culture’s global presence across various entertainment verticals. From Oscar-winning films like “Parasite” to Tony-winning musicals and hit series, CJ ENM has a diverse portfolio that includes managing rising K-pop acts and organizing major cultural events like KCON and the MAMA Awards.
With Hakuhodo bringing over a century of advertising and marketing expertise to the table, this partnership is poised to make a significant impact on the global music industry. Founded in 1895, the Tokyo-based company provides creative solutions in advertising, management consulting, and social impact initiatives for clients in Japan and beyond.
