CNN’s Harry Enten Says Americans Have Made A Massive Shift On Israel, Palestine

Recent data analysis from CNN’s Harry Enten indicates a significant shift in public opinion among U.S. voters regarding the Israel-Gaza conflict. Over the past two years, there has been a notable increase in sympathy towards Palestinians, marking a historic change.

Following the initial phase of a Gaza peace deal between Israel and Hamas, Enten referenced polling data from Quinnipiac and New York Times polling showing a shift in voter sentiment. In October 2023, Americans favored Israelis over Palestinians by a margin of +48 percentage points, but now, there has been a reversal with voters leaning towards Palestinians by +1 point, a first-time occurrence since the 1980s.

Enten highlighted the influence of Democrats in shaping this change, noting that in October 2023, they sympathized more with Israelis by +26 points, whereas they now lean towards Palestinians by +46 points.

Describing this shift as “truly historic,” Enten also pointed out the division among Republican voters. A significant age gap was evident within the GOP, with voters under 50 favoring Israelis by +25 points, while those 50 and older showed a stronger preference for Israelis at +66 points, according to Quinnipiac polling.

Regarding the news of a potential permanent Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal, Enten referenced a poll showing that a majority of adults found negotiating such a deal important. With 51% considering it extremely/very important and 31% somewhat important, Enten believes the American public will welcome the potential agreement.
