CNN’s New ‘All Access’ Streamer Puts Big Spotlight on Mobile Viewers
CNN is making a strategic shift towards emphasizing news content over cable programming with the launch of a new subscription streaming tier called “All Access.” This new offering is designed to cater to an audience that values up-to-date news coverage and a connection to traditional TV as a secondary priority.
While “All Access” will feature CNN’s traditional cable programming, its primary focus is on delivering the latest news on trending topics rather than specific time slots or celebrity hosts. Subscribers can expect collections of recent videos covering a wide range of current events, including sports scandals and political developments like the government shutdown. The platform will also offer special live streams to provide viewers with real-time updates on unfolding events, as well as access to CNN’s library of films and documentaries.
Alex McCallum, CNN’s executive vice president of digital products and services, highlighted the platform’s versatility, stating, “We’re delivering all of CNN’s industry-leading journalism in one place, accessible on any device.” Whether users prefer live video coverage or bite-sized news updates, “All Access” aims to provide a comprehensive and engaging experience for all viewers.
As CNN looks to attract viewers who are moving away from traditional cable subscriptions, the company is projected to lose a portion of its pay-TV subscriber base in the coming years. To address this shift in consumer behavior, CNN is offering “All Access” at a subscription fee of $6.99 per month or $69.99 annually.
Unlike its previous streaming venture, CNN+, which failed to gain traction in 2022, “All Access” will rely heavily on CNN’s existing video content and reporting. The platform will leverage the network’s global team of reporters, producers, and correspondents to deliver a wide range of news stories and features to subscribers.
The launch of “All Access” comes at a time of uncertainty for CNN’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, following its acquisition of Warner Media from AT&T. Despite the corporate reshuffling, CNN remains committed to providing viewers with access to its international feed and two additional FAST channels dedicated to breaking news and original documentaries.
In addition to existing programming, “All Access” will introduce new shows hosted by CNN’s current staff, including Anderson Cooper, Donie O’Sullivan, and Harry Enten. These programs will offer unique perspectives on topics like grief, spirituality, and statistical analysis of current events.
