Coco Gauff Secures Victory at WTA Finals
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Defending champion Coco Gauff revived her chances of advancing at the WTA Finals with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory over Jasmine Paolini on Tuesday.
Gauff showcased an improved serving performance, with only three double faults in the match compared to the 17 she had in her previous encounter, a three-set loss to Jessica Pegula.
Reflecting on her performance, Gauff expressed her satisfaction with the turnaround, stating, “It’s the beauty of this tournament to have another chance to prove yourself.”
In her upcoming match, Gauff will face top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in a crucial showdown to determine her advancement in the season-ending event for the top eight players. Meanwhile, Paolini’s hopes were dashed as she was eliminated from contention following two consecutive losses.
Sabalenka currently leads the group standings after a hard-fought victory over Pegula with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
In addition to her singles campaign, Paolini is also competing in the doubles event alongside partner Sara Errani.
Commenting on her opponent’s performance, Gauff acknowledged the challenges of balancing singles and doubles matches, stating, “Playing singles and doubles is not easy.”
