Colorado mansion sells for $10M leading Denver home sales for July

A stunning mansion on 667 acres in Evergreen recently sold for a record-breaking $10 million, marking the highest local home sale to date.

Known as Captain’s Rock Ranch, the property at 3999 Evans Ranch Road boasts an impressive 11,376-square-foot mansion featuring five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Constructed in 1995 using chinked logs and Gallegos stone, the home exudes rustic charm and luxury.

Aside from the mansion, the property also includes an indoor riding arena with eight stalls, a tack room, and an office. Additionally, there is a beautifully restored 1900s schoolhouse that was saved and relocated to the property, offering potential use as a guest retreat or studio space.

The property was originally listed for $16.4 million by Brent Redstone and Anne M. Vanderwerken in 2024, but after several price reductions, it was relisted at $10 million on March 24. The listing was managed by Josh Behr with LIV Sotheby’s International Realty and went under contract on May 13.

According to Keri Duffy of the Denver Metro Area of Realtors market trends committee, the initial list price significantly overestimated the market value. After being relisted, the property spent 45 days on the market, aligning with the average days on market for the $1 million-plus segment in the Denver metro area.

Represented by Kenneth Mirr with Mirr Ranch Group, Captains Rock Ranch LLC, a Colorado corporation established in April, successfully purchased the property.

Redstone, the seller, is the son of the late media magnate Sumner Redstone, who founded the Paramount Global empire. Redstone, a former Boston prosecutor, relocated to Colorado in the mid-1990s and previously worked at the Denver law firm Davis Graham.

Notably, Redstone was involved in a legal dispute with his father in 2006, alleging he was unfairly ousted from the family business in favor of his sister, Shari, and accusing his father of misusing company assets. The lawsuit was resolved in 2007 for approximately $240 million.

Following the sale of their Evergreen property, the couple purchased an English Tudor-style mansion in Asheville, North Carolina, in 2023. In 2024, Redstone and Vanderwerken filed a lawsuit against a Denver auction house for failing to remit proceeds from the sale of items from their former home, though the case was later dropped.
