Colorado mom accused of killing 2 kids, fleeing to UK arrives back in US to face murder charges
Kimberlee Singler, a Colorado mother, has returned to the US almost two years after being arrested in the UK for the brutal murder of her two young children. District Attorney Michael Allen announced her arrival during a press conference, where he stated that Singler is facing two counts of first-degree murder and could potentially spend life behind bars if convicted.
The tragic incident occurred on December 18, 2023, amidst a bitter custody battle with her ex-husband. Singler allegedly stabbed her 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son to death, while also injuring her 11-year-old daughter. The motive behind the heinous act was believed to be related to the custody dispute, as Singler had refused to hand over the children to her ex-husband despite a court order.
Upon discovery of the crime scene, Singler attempted to frame her ex-husband by claiming he had previously dreamt of killing his family. She then fled the country, leading to her arrest in London on December 30, 2023. Her extradition to the US was delayed due to legal challenges, with Singler arguing that Colorado’s laws could result in an automatic life-without-parole sentence if convicted of first-degree murder.
After a series of appeals, Singler’s extradition was finally approved, and she has now returned to face the charges against her. The surviving eldest daughter, now 13, has recounted the harrowing moments leading up to the murders, where Singler allegedly claimed that God was instructing her to commit the act.
Singler is now facing seven first-degree charges for murder, attempted murder, and assault. District Attorney Allen emphasized the need for privacy for the surviving daughter and the grieving family. The return of Singler marks a significant step in the criminal justice process, as the community awaits justice for the tragic loss of two innocent lives.
