This film marks the directorial debut of Shingo Yamashita, a talented director known for his work on popular series like “Jujutsu Kaisen” Season 1, “Chainsaw Man,” and “Urusei Yatsura.” A new trailer has been unveiled, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect from this highly anticipated movie.
The story follows Iroha Sakayori, a 17-year-old high school student in Tokyo who juggles part-time work and academics. She finds solace in watching the popular streamer Yachiyo Runami, the administrator of the virtual space Tsukuyomi. Iroha spends her time on the platform where users engage in various creative activities and play exciting battle games. However, her life takes a dramatic turn when she stumbles upon a telephone pole emitting a mysterious iridescent light, from which an infant emerges. To her surprise, the baby rapidly ages into a girl her own age, who she names Kaguya.
As Kaguya grows into a self-indulgent young girl, she convinces Iroha to help her launch a streaming career in Tsukuyomi. With Iroha as the producer and songwriter and Kaguya as the streamer and singer, the duo forms a close bond. Little do they know, ominous forces are at play, seeking to return Kaguya to the moon.
The film boasts an impressive Japanese voice cast, including Natsuyoshi Yuko as Kaguya, Anna Nagase as Iroha Sakayori, and Saori Hayami as Yachiyo Runami. The English dub features talented voice actors like Jeannie Tirado, Dawn Bennett, and Max Mittelman, bringing the characters to life in a new language.

The musical performances are produced by Naoya Nakayama, with a captivating score composed by Conisch. The main theme song, “Ex-Otogibanashi,” is performed by Yachiyo Runami, voiced by Hayami.
The animation is set in a dreamlike virtual world called Tsukuyomi, exploring the power of music to forge connections. The film promises a unique blend of emotional storytelling, dynamic 3D action, and stylized visuals characteristic of Yamashita’s work. Studio Colorido, known for “Penguin Highway” and “A Whisker Away,” produced the film in collaboration with Yamashita’s Studio Chromato.
