Crazed woman who allegedly bashed diner with glass bottle, attacks 4 others in random spree is cut loose by judge: DA
A 44-year-old woman, Hilda Grullon, who allegedly attacked a patron at a Brooklyn restaurant with a glass bottle before assaulting four others, was released by a judge on supervised release despite prosecutors’ push to hold her on bail. The incident occurred at the Burrito Bar & Kitchen in Prospect Heights.
Grullon, who reportedly has seven prior convictions, including for assaults, was granted supervised release by Judge Jacob Zelmanovitz, despite prosecutors requesting $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond. The suspect allegedly attacked a 63-year-old man inside the restaurant before targeting four more individuals on the street.
One of the victims, a 52-year-old man, was walking with his wife and two young children when he was struck by Grullon. She also allegedly swung a knife at another woman during the altercation. Despite the violent outburst, Grullon displayed a calm demeanor with no visible signs of anger, according to one of the victims.
The list of charges against Grullon includes assault, attempted assault, menacing, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a weapon, and harassment. She is scheduled to appear in court on June 1.
Judge Zelmanovitz, who was recently inducted as a Civil Court judge in Brooklyn but is currently serving in Criminal Court, aims to bring humility and understanding to the bench. He expressed his desire to empathize with individuals appearing before him and to consider their circumstances during legal proceedings.
