‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Producer’s ‘The Season’ Lands at Hulu

PCCW Media, a Hong Kong-based company, has recently secured Hulu as the U.S. home for its upcoming six-episode drama series, “The Season,” which was developed in collaboration with SK Global. The deal was finalized earlier this year, paving the way for the show’s international debut at Mipcom, where Fremantle will be presenting it to potential buyers worldwide, supported by De Maio Entertainment. Viu, the platform that commissioned the project, will retain rights across its 15-market footprint and stream the series as original programming.

SK Global, the renowned production company behind hits like “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Thai Cave Rescue,” and Emmy-winning “Delhi Crime,” partnered with PCCW Media to bring “The Season” to life. The series is set during Hong Kong’s summer social season and revolves around an affluent group whose carefully constructed facade begins to unravel when an outsider enters their world. Promising a visually stunning exploration of wealth, loyalty, and deception against the backdrop of the city’s harbor culture.

The ensemble cast is led by Jessie Mei Li, known for her role in Netflix’s “Shadow and Bone,” and Hong Kong cinema veteran Karena Lam, a three-time Golden Horse Award winner. The supporting cast includes Chris Pang, Justin Chien, Yvonne Chapman, Celina Jade, and Toby Stephens, among others. Notable guest appearances are made by rising stars like Kōki, Lee Jae-yoon, and Lyman Heung, as well as Hong Kong pop idols Anson Lo and Marf Yau.

“We are excited to bring ‘The Season’ to Hulu in the U.S. and partner with Fremantle for international distribution,” said Janice Lee, Managing Director of PCCW Media Group and CEO of Viu. “Developed in collaboration with SK Global, the series captures the vibrant energy of Hong Kong through stunning visuals, making it both authentic and appealing to a global audience.”

Chloe Dan, Executive VP and Head of Television at SK Global, expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with Hulu to bring “The Season” to U.S. viewers, highlighting the series’ universal appeal and premium storytelling.

Behind the scenes, creator and executive producer Yalun Tu, known for his work on “My Undead Yokai Girlfriend” and “NCIS: Hawaii,” leads the production team. Acclaimed filmmaker Marialy Rivas directs multiple episodes and serves as an executive producer. The producing team includes representatives from both PCCW Media and SK Global.

Overall, “The Season” promises to be a captivating and emotionally engaging series that will captivate audiences both in the U.S. and around the world. With a talented cast, experienced production team, and a compelling storyline, the show is set to make a mark in the global entertainment landscape.
