Creep nurse had sex with patient — then falsely accused him of sexually assaulting her
A nurse from Wisconsin has been incarcerated after engaging in a sexual relationship with a patient from the Monroe County Drug Court, and then falsely accusing him of sexual assault. Melissa Knutson was convicted of misconduct in public office and obstructing an officer for her actions in 2022.
Initially, Knutson tried to shift the blame onto the patient by alleging that he sexually assaulted her. However, further investigation revealed that she had instigated the relationship with the patient while administering the substance abuse drug, Vivitrol. Text messages between Knutson and the patient exposed her initiation of the relationship and her plan to deny everything if they were caught.
Eventually, Knutson confessed to fabricating the sexual assault claim in an attempt to evade the repercussions of her actions. District Attorney Kevin Croninger condemned Knutson’s behavior, stating that she had not only breached the trust between a nurse and patient but had also falsely accused the patient of a serious offense, especially considering his participation in drug court.
As a result of her actions, Knutson was sentenced to 18 months in prison and two years of extended supervision. The court deemed the harm caused by Knutson to be significant, highlighting the severity of her betrayal of trust and false accusations. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining professional boundaries and integrity in healthcare settings.
