Cricket Comedy Series ‘Strikers’ Enlists Josh Kirby, Jonathan Veles

Exciting New Comedy Series “Strikes” Sets Writers for Pilot Episode
The highly anticipated comedy series “Strikes,” centered around the world of cricket, has enlisted the talented writing duo of Josh Kirby and Jonathan Veles to craft the pilot episode, as reported exclusively by Variety.
Initially announced in February, the show is the brainchild of co-creators Dana Abraham and renowned “Queer Eye” star Bobby Berk. Both creators are set to star in the series alongside Shaun Majumder and Nazanin Mandi.
Under Abraham’s production company Red Hill Creative, “Strikes” is gearing up for production and is set to pitch to various studios and buyers in the near future. Tony Williams joins Abraham as a producer, while Berk, Jacob Silvera, Majumder, and Danny Treibatch complete the executive producing team.
Abraham expressed her excitement about Kirby and Veles joining the project, stating, “They bring the experience and elevated comedy to the unique story, with such love and care for the culture and sport of cricket.” Berk added, “The pair are fearless, they’re funny, and they’ve already created moments that’ll have fans quoting the characters for years to come, only furthering the impact of our show globally.”
Kirby and Veles first crossed paths as performers on a cruise ship before teaming up as writers. Their collaborative efforts have yielded success with hit sitcoms like “The Real O’Neals” and “Fresh Off the Boat,” along with projects developed for major platforms like Universal Television, Spectrum, and Amazon. Their Sundance-selected pilot “Rock the Boat,” based on their own experiences, was also well-received.
Represented by Range Media Partners, UTA, and Ziffren Brittenham, Kirby and Veles are poised to bring their unique comedic vision to “Strikes.”
The official synopsis of “Strikes” introduces viewers to Amar Farooqi (played by Abraham), a former MLB pitcher whose career-ending injury leads him back to his South Asian roots through cricket. Tasked with revitalizing the struggling cricket team, the Steel City Strikers, Amar is joined by steel company heir AJ Joshi (Majumder), his publicist niece Maya (Mandi), and well-connected manager Mickey (Berk) on a journey of sports redemption and unexpected glory.
