Dana Shepherd sentenced to 45 years in prison for brutal 1993 rape and murder

A 53-year-old man named Dana Shepherd was recently sentenced to 45 years in prison for the rape, stabbing, and murder of 19-year-old Carmen Van Huss more than 30 years ago. This sentencing marks the closing of a decades-old cold case that had haunted the Indianapolis community for years.

Shepherd signed a plea deal last month, admitting to the heinous crime that took place in 1993. Van Huss was brutally raped and stabbed 61 times in her apartment, leaving her lifeless body to be discovered by her father.
