David Letterman ‘Proud’ of Seth Meyers Amid Trump Calls to Fire Host
David Letterman Stands Up for Seth Meyers Amid Trump’s Calls for Firing
David Letterman, a late-night veteran and former host of NBC’s “Late Night,” is showing his support for his “good friend” Seth Meyers in the face of President Donald Trump’s demands for Meyers to be fired. Trump recently took to Truth Social to criticize Meyers, accusing him of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and calling for NBC to terminate his employment due to low ratings and lack of talent.
In a recent episode of “The Barbara Gaines Show,” Letterman praised Meyers for his work on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” a show that Letterman himself used to host. Letterman commended Meyers for his comedic abilities and defended him against Trump’s attacks, expressing pride in Meyers’ performance on the show.
Letterman also took aim at Trump’s administration, criticizing the president for his handling of the Jamal Khashoggi case and labeling him as a “dictator” who is “not going anywhere.” He described Trump’s behavior as “the worst seen in humans” and condemned the administration as a “wonder of idiocy.”
Meyers is the latest late-night host to come under fire from Trump, following previous attacks on Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert. Kimmel’s show faced suspension in September after comments about Charlie Kirk’s killing, while Colbert’s “The Late Show” is set to end in 2026, with CBS citing financial reasons for the decision.
Despite Trump’s attempts to discredit Meyers and other late-night hosts, Letterman’s support serves as a reminder of the importance of free speech and the role of comedy in holding those in power accountable.
