Democratic Rep. Khanna: Biden made a mistake in running again
Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna recently made a candid admission regarding his previous defense of former President Joe Biden’s mental and physical fitness during the 2024 campaign. While Khanna acknowledged that he was mistaken in his assessment, he emphasized that there was no deliberate cover-up prior to the election.
In an interview with ABC News’ “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl, Khanna expressed his belief that transparency and accountability are essential in moving forward. “I don’t think it was a cover-up … but I do think that the advisers and people close to Joe Biden owe an explanation. What I don’t think the Democratic Party can do is just say, ‘Let’s talk about the future. Let’s move past this,'” Khanna stated.
Acknowledging his error, Khanna emphasized the importance of taking responsibility before progress can be made. “Look, I made a mistake … you have to own up before you can move forward,” Khanna admitted.
Despite his previous defense of Biden’s accomplishments in office, Khanna reiterated his stance that seeking a second term was a misstep for the former president. “He’s had a remarkable life. He showed a lot of resilience. I still think Joe Biden has a lot to be proud of in his record,” Khanna remarked, citing achievements such as the CHIPS Act and the Inflation Reduction Act.
During the interview, Khanna also touched on other topics, including his focus on regaining control of the House, his ‘Benefits over Billionaires’ town halls in Pennsylvania, and his support for Trump’s efforts to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran.
As Khanna navigates the political landscape and reflects on past decisions, his willingness to admit mistakes and advocate for accountability serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity in public service.
