Developmentally disabled five-year-old savagely beaten at cub scout meeting while scoutmaster left to vape: lawsuit
A tragic incident occurred during a Cub Scout meeting at a local Ohio church, where a developmentally disabled five-year-old boy was brutally attacked by a much older 12-year-old boy. The young boy, identified as D.R., suffered lifelong injuries after being assaulted during an indoor “snowball” fight with fake snowballs. The attack took place while the scoutmaster stepped outside to vape, leaving the children unsupervised.
According to reports, the 12-year-old boy, L.C., punched D.R. in the head and proceeded to kick him in the stomach, causing him to fall over. The assailant then stomped on D.R.’s leg, resulting in a serious thigh fracture that required emergency surgery. D.R. was rushed to the emergency room at Wood County Hospital, where he underwent a procedure to stabilize the fracture with flexible titanium elastic nails.
The family of the young victim has filed a lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America, the scoutmaster, and L.C.’s father, alleging negligence in supervising the children. The lawsuit claims that L.C. had a history of aggression towards D.R. and had been warned multiple times to keep his hands to himself. The incident has left D.R. with not only physical injuries but also psychological trauma that will have long-lasting effects.
Following the surgery, D.R. experienced significant pain and had to rely on morphine and other pain medications for relief. He was placed in a cast that limited his mobility, preventing him from attending school. The once energetic and happy Cub Scout is now faced with a challenging road to recovery, both physically and emotionally.
The family is seeking justice for their son, hoping to hold those responsible accountable for the devastating consequences of the attack. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper supervision and care for all children, especially those with special needs. The young boy’s journey to healing will be a difficult one, but with the support of his family and community, he will hopefully overcome this traumatic experience and regain his joyful spirit.
