Diamondbacks beat Athletics 7-2 to end six-game losing streak

The Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a six-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory over the Athletics in a game that showcased strong hitting and pitching performances. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. came up clutch with a go-ahead two-run single in the fifth inning, while Ketel Marte, Alek Thomas, and Corbin Carroll added home runs to secure the win.

Starting pitcher Zac Gallen was solid on the mound, allowing just two runs on nine hits over six innings. The bullpen trio of Andrew Saalfrank, Kendall Graveman, and Kevin Ginkel shut down the Athletics in the later innings to seal the victory.

Marte set the tone early with a solo home run in the first inning, giving the Diamondbacks an early lead. However, the Athletics fought back to take a 2-1 lead with runs in the third inning.

In the fifth inning, Thomas and Alexander set the table with singles, loading the bases for Marte, who tied the game with a groundout. Gurriel then delivered a clutch two-run single to give the Diamondbacks a 4-2 lead.

Thomas added to the lead with a solo homer in the sixth, while Del Castillo contributed with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Carroll capped off the scoring with a home run in the ninth.

On the mound, J.T. Ginn struggled for the Athletics, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks in just four innings. The loss snapped Oakland’s three-game win streak.

Gurriel’s timely hit was a testament to his prowess with the bases loaded, as he now boasts seven grand slams and a .394 career average in such situations.

Gallen, who had struggled in his previous starts, bounced back with a strong performance against the Athletics.

Looking ahead, the Athletics have yet to name a starter for the rubber game against Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez.

Overall, the Diamondbacks’ win was a much-needed morale boost after a tough stretch of games, and they will look to build on this momentum moving forward.
